Detour SMART Bars

I’ve been a Fitfluential Ambassador for a few months now and was chosen for my first campaign, Detour Bar. This blog post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Detour Bar.

I feel like I’ve made my love for on the go bars pretty clear in the past. I’m always looking for something healthy and easy. With my kids, sometimes a quick bar is all I have time to eat. Plus they’re easy to take wherever we’re headed for an easy snack. So I was pretty excited to be chosen for this campaign.
I was sent a box of apple cinnamon smart bars, blueberry smart bars and a reusable grocery bag.

Detour SMART bars are a whole grain oatmeal bar. Only 130-160calories and with 10-11g of protein. 3G of fiber and between 2-6g of fat depending what flavor you eat, which they come in 4 flavors. Apple cinnamon, blueberry, peanut butter chocolate and cranberry flax. They’re all natural and gluten free.

I tried one of each on their own and they’re delicious. The flavor and texture is awesome. I love that they’re soft and chewy, it means my littlest can eat them also. Which he did. He had to try it when I did. Started off as sharing but it quickly turned into him needing his own.
YAY! Kid approved!

These are really good on their own of course, but I found it’s super good cut up and added into Greek yogurt. An awesome pre-workout snack. I like eating it before my run. I can’t handle running if I’ve eaten an actual meal recently so I eat this 30-60 minutes before I run and it’s perfect!

If you follow Detour Bar on Instagram you’ll notice they do a weekly photo contest! If you hashtag #detourbar on your photos of your detour bar, you’ll have a chance at winning 2 boxes of their bars! I thought that was pretty awesome. It’s always awesome to win free stuff. I love seeing companies interact with customers through social media!

Here are some places you can contact or follow Detour Bar.
Like them on Facebook
Follow them on Twitter, Instagram , Pintrest, and YouTube.
You can purchase all of their products at and for a limited time you get a free reusable grocery bag with every SMART bar purchase.
20140617-100216-36136271.jpgApparently my son took over my bag, because everything is his.

The bag is super cool though because it folds up into a little bag for easy storage. Takes up little room and is easy to keep in your purse for when you need it at the store. Or to entertain a toddler.

I highly recommend giving these bars a try. They’re really tasty and the nutrition facts fit my diet well. I’m extremely grateful I was able to give these a try. As much as I love finding new products I like, I love finding new options for my kids that they approve of even more.

Thanks Detour Bar, for this opportunity and making such a great snack! I definitely need to try the other two flavors!

Summer Break Is Almost Here!

I’ve been pretty bad at keeping up with this lately. Between lifting, running, my sons baseball games, and the little one to chase after constantly, I’ve been pretty busy. Summer break is a week away, so I’ll either have more time to blog or none at all. My guess is none at all, but I’m going to try to make the time.
20140611-123025-45025812.jpgLast baseball game was this Monday. He’s pretty happy to be done.

I’m sure I’ll be creating some clean summer treats since my oldest will be home and is usually hungry pretty much all the time. Growing boy with a sweet tooth like his momma unfortunately. I probably should of started preparing snack and craft ideas already. A week goes by fast and I need my boys entertained for two and a half months. Not sure how I’m gonna survive it. Last year my youngest wasn’t quite walking yet and now he’s everywhere, climbing on everything, getting into anything he can. 20140611-123244-45164920.jpgHe’s such a helper though. Too bad he broke that bowl.

Last year I really struggled to get my workouts done over summer. With two kids needing my attention at different times, it can be tough. Doesn’t help that my youngest is trying to cut his naps down to damn near nothing some days. How am I supposed to shower so I can smell decent before walking them to the library when he won’t nap? As fun as toddlers can be, (when they aren’t throwing tantrums) I kind of miss having a cuddly, sleepy, and happy baby. I was able to shower every afternoon. 20140611-123624-45384205.jpgOk, he’s still pretty happy. Really silly too.

I guess it’s time to start thinking of some fun activities. My oldest is always complaining he’s bored. I really don’t want him glued to the tv, iPod, computer, or 3DS all summer long. I love that it’s a 10 minute walk to the library, plus we live fairly close to about 3 parks. That’s a way to get a workout in, chasing my 19 month old all over the park. I’m pretty sure I’ll be waiting anxiously for their dad to get home everyday so I can go on a run though, alone. I love my kids, but alone time keeps me sane.

I’m really looking forward to summer though. We’re going camping a few times and my parents are driving up from New Mexico. We only see them once a year so I have a lot of plans for us. Which again, means I’ll probably have a hard time sticking to my normal routine but it’s okay. I’ll continue to try my best.

Leave some fun craft ideas or activities for kids if you know any!

Vegetable Soup

I started this week off sick, which is no fun. I figured it’s a good time to make my vegetable soup though, since I’ve been asked for the recipe a few times. I love love LOVE vegetable soup. I would add more veggies to mine but I have picky eaters. So feel free to add celery, tomatoes, onion, whatever veggies your heart desires!

I start by pouring a jar of Ragu traditional spaghetti sauce in a pan. Fill the jar up 1 1/2 times with water and add that to the pan as well.
Add 2tbs of Italian seasoning, 1tsp onion powder, and some salt and pepper. I’d use actual onion but my son would complain.
Stir well and cook on medium heat while you get the veggies ready.

Next I cut up half a bag of baby carrots, about 2cups once they’re chopped. I peel, wash and cut about 5 potatoes, depending on size. Mine were smaller, I think it ended up being 1 1/2lbs. I add 2cups of frozen peas and 1 1/2cups of frozen white corn, my sons favorite.

Add all the veggies in, carefully so hot sauce isn’t splashing on you. Stir well. Turn heat down to low-medium and put a lid on it. Stir every half hour or so for a few hours. I turn the heat down to low after about two hours. I cook mine 3-4 hours because I like it thick.

Hope you enjoy the recipe! My son loves dipping fresh baked bread into his soup!

Summer is Coming.

I can’t believe summer is just around the corner. Time has been flying by, it’s just crazy. I’m sure I’m not the only one who had hoped they’d be closer to their goals before we reached summer.

So many people kicking into “oh shit” mode and trying to get those abs before summer gets here. Trying to step it up a notch, push themselves further.
Well one ab workout certainly isn’t going to do it. Would be nice though. You know what else won’t? Starving yourself.
Seriously, food is fuel. Just make sure you’re feeding your body the right way and you’ll be fine. Healthy foods and exercise, stay consistent and dedicated. You won’t see abs if you’re not eating properly. 20140515-132740.jpg
It takes time. Don’t forget that. As long as you don’t give up, you’ll reach your goals. I mean, you’ve come this far already. 20140515-132942.jpg
Until then, love the body you have. Be confident and comfortable with who you are. Don’t beat yourself up because you’re not where you had hoped you’d be. Be proud of how far you’ve come. Most importantly, enjoy yourself! Have fun. Don’t let a bathing suit determine how you feel or the memories you make.

Stay active. Eat healthy. Just don’t forget to love yourself in between.

P28 Foods

If you follow fitness accounts on Instagram than I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of P28 Foods at least once. High protein bagels, wraps and bread along with some delicious nut butters. I swear some of the posts I see on Instagram make me drool. So I was pretty excited when this showed up at my door.
Bagels, bread, flats, regular peanut butter and their white chocolate peanut butter. Of course I couldn’t wait to try the peanut butters because I love my nut butters! I stuck a spoon right into those beautiful little jars of happiness and wasn’t disappointed.

The texture of the peanut butters aren’t exactly the same as regular peanut butter. Of course not, it has twice the amount of protein. The texture reminded me of almond butter, which I LOVE, except this is still pretty creamy and much easier to spread. I prefer the texture and taste of both flavors I received, compared to regular peanut butter. Plus twice the protein?! Who could say no to that??
Who doesn’t love peanut butter and jelly… for breakfast?? Pb&j is good all the time. Just put some p28 peanut butter and some smashed berries with a little agave on a p28 bagel or bread. Easy and delicious with 34g of protein.

I love that the breads are 100% natural. Made with whole wheat, whey protein isolate, oats, flaxseeds, sunflower seeds and millet. With 28g of protein per wrap, bagel, or per 2 slices of bread. Just 1 slice of bread with 1tbs of their nut butter has 28g of protein, which makes a great pre workout snack! Plus they’re cholesterol free and have a decent amount of fiber.

For those of you that don’t know, I’m a vegetarian. On top of lifting weights and running, I also breastfeed. Recommended amount of protein is about 1g per 1lb of body weight. I try to get closer to 1.5g per 1lb of body weight. Some days it’s definitely a struggle. While breast feeding, veggies do not fill me up! The P28 products are definitely a help! Twice the amount of protein is crazy! No complaining here. Eat all the protein!
I’ve been eating this BBQ “chicken” pizza everyday for lunch. Of course you could use store bought BBQ sauce but I made my own.
•3tbs ketchup
•1 1/2tbs rice vinegar
•1tbs agave (any sweetener will work)
•1-2tsp brown sugar (any sweetener will work)
•1/2tsp Worcestershire
•1/4 – 1/2tsp onion powder
•1/4 – 1/2tsp seasoning salt
•2 shakes of garlic powder
•1 shake of chili powder
•1 shake of pepper
It really depends! I try it and add what I think it needs. It tastes a lot better once it’s cooked
•I cut the flat bread in half, so it makes 2 servings!
•Preheat the oven to 350
•Mix all the BBQ sauce ingredients well and evenly spread it on the two wraps
•Top with cooked chicken (Gardein chick’n strips) and a little cheese
•Bake 10-15 minutes and enjoy!

I’ve definitely enjoyed creating some meals with the bread products. There’s so many possibilities. Especially with the wraps. Using them to wrap up some veggies. Make a quesadilla. Pizza as I showed above, yum! Don’t forget dessert too though. You can heat one of these with some peanut butter, banana slices, dark chocolate chips and coconut. Holy YUM! There’s so much you can do while getting at least 28g of protein. I love it!!

I posted the recipe for these raspberry vanilla coconut French toast on my this morning. So easy and good. These products truly are delicious and I’d highly recommend giving them a try. The last creation that I’m going to share is a single serving cookie that I made. Well, I shared it with my son, so maybe not quite a single serving if you have children. I love being able to make just one cookie though. When I make a batch, I’ll be eating cookies for days. I don’t have self control, so single serving really does work best for me.
2tsp coconut oil (melted)
1 tbs agave
1tsp vanilla
1 egg white
1tbs p28 white chocolate peanut butter
1/4c oat flour
2tbs dark chocolate chips
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
-Mix all wet ingredients together. Add flour and dark chocolate chips, mix well.
-Spray a ramekin with cooking spray and pour the batter inside.
-Bake 8-12 minutes (depending on your oven)

If you can’t find P28 products near you, you can order online. The nut butters can be found at Vitacost. If you use this link to sign up, you’ll save $10 off of your first purchase of $30 or more! You can purchase all of the products at online! I highly suggest giving them a try! My favorite products have to be the white chocolate peanut butter and the wraps. I’ve heard great things about their signature peanut butter, so I’m definitely going to try that one soon and I’ll let you all know what I think.
Have you ever tried any of the P28 products? If so, what did you think?

Fiber Love Bars

I know I’ve mentioned dozens of time about how I love my “quick on-the-go” snacks, but it’s because I do. Especially for my kiddos. Something easy for after school, before baseball practice, while taking walks or playing at the park. I came across these super tasty bars called Fiber Love.

I received them about a week ago. Right before we left for a weekend vacation so I was able to take a few with us! The first one I tried was cinnamon raisin of course, I love cinnamon raisin! This package is adorable, right?!
I received 6 bars, one of each flavor. They all sound so delicious. When my 7 year old heard the flavors he instantly called dibs on the chocolate brownie flavor, of course. Well now there are two more flavors they shared on their Instagram yesterday! Coconut Macaroon and Apple Cobbler! Yum, right?!
On top of being tasty they have 12g of fiber! They have between 130-160 calories each and around 4g of protein each. Plus they’re GMO free! Such an awesome snack! Especially for my little ones, who loved them by the way! 20140402-164002.jpg
That was my oldest sons first reaction when taking a bite. My youngest just kept his mouth full. If my picky 7 year old likes them, then they’re definitely kid approved!

At you can purchase single bars, a 5 pack or a 16 pack which I thought was pretty cool! Sometimes I don’t like having to buy an entire box of one flavor. This way you can change it up and try them all! Which I highly recommend!

Weekend Vacation

Spring break is coming to an end which makes me, and I’m sure my 7 year old, pretty sad. To end spring break we’re surprising him with a trip to see his aunt and cousins though! I can’t wait to see his face when he finds out tomorrow. He’s been dying to go!

Weekend away means getting food prepped! Multiple containers of chicken and rice, plain brown rice, fruits, veggies, yogurt, protein bars, nuts, nut butter and cottage cheese all coming with. I feel like we’re bringing almost everything in our kitchen.

I thought it would be good to bake some snacks to bring with too. We have a bunch of giraffe bananas so banana muffins it is! Have you heard of Metabolic Nutrition protein? The Banana Creme one smells like one of those banana moon pies. My mom used to love those!
Metabolic Nutrition has some of the best tasting protein I’ve had. I absolutely love baking with it. I used the banana cream flavor for these muffins but you could use another flavor! Vanilla, peanut butter, or cinnamon swirl would all taste good too!
-3 large bananas, mashed
-3tbs BBF Coconut Oil
-1 egg
-1/2c BBF Agave
-1 scoop Banana Creme protein
-1 1/2c oat flour
-1tsp baking powder
-1tsp baking soda
-1tsp cinnamon
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
-Mix bananas, egg, and oil well.
-Mix all dry ingredients together.
-Combine wet with dry. Mix well.
-Spray muffin tin, or line with cupcake liners, and fill 2/3 of the way full.
-Bake for 15-18 minutes.

This recipe made 14 muffins. I topped mine with walnut butter. SO DELICIOUS! If you haven’t tried Ingreatients vanilla maple walnut butter, you are a TOTALLY missing out! I mean look at this delicious nut butter!

It’s so good, I could eat it by the spoonfuls. As you can see, I’m running pretty low. So if anyone wants to buy me some, feel free (;
