Skinny vs Fit.

I’m not going to lie. I’ll admit that I used to always say “I wish I was skinny.” Skinny as is thin arms and a flat stomach. Skinny to me was healthy and attractive. After making a fitness account on Instagram I discovered all these beautiful ladies who were in shape and lean. They have all these curves but no body fat. I always was against lifting weights in fear I’d look like those body builder women in magazines. My boyfriend workouts and always tried to get me to but I refused. But all these women lift weights and have these incredible bodies and I’m over here doing cardio only, wondering why I still have all this body fat. Even when I was skinny, I was skinny fat. I looked small but still had body fat and no muscle.

I decided to give weights a try. I bought my first 6 week weight training program at http://www.gosupersisters.com and my opinion changed completely. Lifting weights doesn’t have to be for building a ton of muscle. It tones your body. The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. I’ve learned that being lean and fit is what’s healthy and attractive. Everyone is beautiful in their own ways but to me health is important and attractive.

Since I’ve started lifting weights I feel so much better. I haven’t put on a ton of muscle but I’m stronger and leaner than I was before. The media uses so many thin women to sell everything. I believed that’s what I should look like. I wish they would use fit women. Women who don’t cut calories but work hard and sweat to earn their bodies. While weight lifting isn’t for everyone, I’m glad I discovered it and changed my opinion and my lifestyle. Eating healthy foods, lifting weights and running has done my body so much good!

  1. Lifting weight is awesome. I found this out myself a few months ago, unfortunately do to failing mental stability I quit not long after starting. I am hoping to start again thought because it is way better for fat loss than cardio. Glad you found something that works for you πŸ˜€

  2. You have been a huge inspiration to me. Im so proud of all that you have done. Thats why Im so excited about your blog because now you have more room to really inspire others instead of just on Instagram you know? I love you. Im glad I have you to count on during my journey πŸ™‚

  3. That’s so awesome! I plan on starting up a workout program when things settle down a bit, I just had 2 babies so I def plan on weight lifting to help get rid of some of this baby weight πŸ™‚

    • Goodness, you must have your hands full! My youngest is 10 months ANC makes working out difficult sometimes. Although sometimes he’s a workout alone! Lol. Good for you knowing what you want though! When the times right and you’re ready you’ll totally kick the baby weights butt!

  4. Lifting weights is the way to go ! I wish they would use ‘fit’ women instead of skinny women because they are giving young girls such a bad impression that if they aren’t skinny they aren’t pretty.

I love doing cardio but I love strength training more. My cardio is where I clear my head of everything and go into a ‘me zone’ and strength training is where I go into ‘beast mode’

Awesome post ! Keep at it girl :)!

  5. I agree wholeheartedly, it is so much better being healthy and fit than being skinny and lean unless you’re skinny and fit. I don’t do much weight training but I need to. I actually hate going to the gym but have been working on my running lately so I’ve been getting into better shape slowly. Kudos to you for taking that first step.

    • Something is better than nothing! Running is my passion. I don’t have a gym membership so I just workout at home. I’d love to have a gym membership but at the same time I think I’d be a little intimidated lol.

  6. Totally agree! Fit > Skinny ANY DAY of the week! I grew up idolizing women like Mia Hamm, Sheryl Swoopes … you know, athletes. I wasn’t ever “thin” but I had muscle. Great athlete, but even I felt “fat.” The other girls were twigs, and here I was having a hard time picking shorts that didn’t kill my soccer-playing thighs. Oh, what I wouldn’t give for that body back!!!

I am kind of nervous that this whole skinny-over-fit thing will get into my daughters head one day. I hope by the time she becomes aware/self-conscious of her body shape, things have changed.

I really want the whole “lifting weights makes you manly” myth to bite the dust…

    • Love what you have to say! It’s funny how we’re always so hard on ourselves about our body yet we always end up wishing we had what we did! If you show her to love your body as is, to be strong or in shape, not thin, she should be fine. Lead my example always. I hope it changes too though. It seems as though it’s just getting worse! One can hope though!
